User Guide for Pick and Mix Gift Box Builder

Pick and Mix Gift Box Builder for WooCommerce lets customers build personalized gift boxes by selecting their favorite products, choosing packaging sizes, adding gift wrapping, and including personal messages.

This guide explains how to configure gift collections, manage product selection rules, set pricing and discounts, customize the gift builder, and display collections on your WooCommerce storefront.

1. Installation & Activation

Follow these steps to install the WooCommerce Gift Box Builder plugin.

  1. Download the plugin ZIP file.
  2. Navigate to WordPress Admin → Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
  3. Upload the ZIP file and click Install Now.
  4. Click Activate Plugin.
  5. You will be redirected to the plugin configuration page.

You can access the settings anytime through WooCommerce → Pick & Mix or by clicking Configurations beneath the plugin name on the Installed Plugins page.

Requirements: WordPress and WooCommerce must be installed and meet the compatibility requirements listed for your plugin version.

2. Create Your First Gift Collection

A gift collection defines the products, packaging, pricing, and rules available in a particular gift builder.

For example, you can create separate collections for Christmas Gift Boxes, Birthday Gifts, Wedding Hampers, Candy Mixes, and Corporate Gifts.

Configuration Steps

  1. Navigate to WooCommerce → Pick & Mix.
  2. Click New Bag Collection.
  3. Enter a collection name, such as Christmas Gift Box.
  4. Set a unique collection identifier.
  5. Upload a collection image.
  6. Configure the collection settings.
  7. Enable Available to Shoppers when ready.
  8. Click Save All Collections.

Expected Result: Your collection becomes available in the frontend gift builder when enabled and its visibility conditions are satisfied.

You can create up to 50 collections, each with independent products, pricing, rules, and appearance settings.

3. Configure Gift Box Sizes & Capacity

Create different packaging options for your Build Your Own Gift Box experience.

For example, offer Small, Medium, and Large gift boxes with different prices and capacities.

Available Settings

SettingDescription
Size NameCustomer-facing name of the gift box size.
CapacityMaximum units or configured portion capacity.
Minimum FillMinimum quantity required to complete the box.
Capacity ModeChoose item-count or fixed-portion gram capacity.
Fill RequirementAllow partial filling or require exact capacity.
Packaging ProductSelect the WooCommerce product used for packaging.
Fixed Contents PriceSet the contents price when using fixed pricing.

Example: A Small Gift Box can hold five products, while a Large Gift Box can accommodate ten.

Customers cannot exceed the configured capacity. Minimum-fill requirements are validated before adding a completed bag to the cart.

Note: Gram-based capacity uses products representing predefined portions. It does not automatically convert bulk inventory into grams.

4. Select Mix and Match Products

Control which WooCommerce products customers can choose when creating their personalized gift boxes.

Configuration Steps

  1. Open your collection’s product configuration section.
  2. Search for products using the searchable product selector.
  3. Select eligible simple products or supported variations.
  4. Configure product quantity limits.
  5. Set product capacity requirements where applicable.
  6. Configure premium products and additional charges.
  7. Save the collection.

Product Selection Features

  • Search and select WooCommerce products.
  • Configure minimum and maximum product quantities.
  • Define product capacity consumption.
  • Apply premium product restrictions.
  • Add product-specific surcharges.
  • Use WooCommerce product availability and stock.

Example: Create a pick-and-mix candy box containing chocolates, sweets, and cookies while limiting premium chocolates to two units.

Only eligible products are available in the selected collection.

5. Configure Advanced Gift Box Rules

Advanced rules provide additional control over the products customers can combine.

RulePurpose
Minimum VarietyRequire a minimum number of different products.
Premium Product LimitRestrict how many premium items can be selected.
Category MinimumRequire a specified quantity from a product category.
Category MaximumLimit the quantity allowed from a category.
Product Quantity LimitsRestrict individual product quantities.
Capacity RestrictionsPrevent combinations exceeding the selected box size.

Example

For a birthday gift box containing six products:

  • Require at least three different products.
  • Allow a maximum of two premium products.
  • Require at least one product from the Chocolates category.

The plugin validates these conditions before allowing customers to complete the gift box.

Important: Ensure category minimums are achievable using the collection’s eligible products and their quantity limits.

6. Configure Gift Box Pricing & Discounts

Choose how customers are charged for their custom gift boxes and mix-and-match bundles.

Pricing Options

Fixed Contents Pricing: Charge a predefined contents price for a particular gift box size.

Product-Based Pricing: Calculate the contents price using selected WooCommerce products and quantities.

Premium Surcharges: Add extra charges for configured premium products.

Discount Tiers: Apply eligible discounts when customers reach specified quantity thresholds.

Packaging & Wrapping: Include the prices of separately selected packaging and wrapping products.

Example

Configure a discount tier that offers 10% off eligible contents when customers select five units.

Discounts follow the configured pricing rules, while WooCommerce handles applicable taxes, coupons, and shipping.

Expected Result: The customer receives a server-calculated price before adding the gift box to the cart.

7. Configure Gift Wrapping & Personalized Messages

Allow customers to customize their gift presentation.

Configuration Steps

  1. Open Gift Wrapping and Photographs.
  2. Add a wrapping option.
  3. Select the associated WooCommerce wrapping product.
  4. Upload a wrapping image using the WordPress Media Library.
  5. Add additional wrapping styles if required.
  6. Enable customer reference-photo uploads if needed.
  7. Save your changes.

Supported Features

Gift Wrapping: Customers can select an available wrapping style.

Wrapping Images: Display images representing different wrapping options.

Personal Messages: Customers can include a message with their gift.

Customer Photo Uploads: Allow private JPEG or PNG reference images for personalized gift preparation.

Customer reference photos are encrypted and associated with the relevant gift order. They are accessible to authorized store managers through protected access.

Upload limits: JPEG/PNG, maximum 2 MB, 4000 pixels per side, and 12 megapixels. Abandoned uploads expire after two days; order-associated uploads expire after 30 days, subject to scheduled cleanup.

8. Configure Free Gifts & Promotional Offers

Create promotional gifts for qualifying custom gift boxes.

Complimentary Gifts

Offer a free product when customers satisfy a configured capacity threshold.

Example: Add a complimentary candy product when a customer selects five eligible items.

Promotional Gift Rules

Configure additional promotional conditions, including:

  • Qualifying products.
  • Minimum spending requirements.
  • Eligible promotional gifts.
  • Promotional start and end dates.
  • Rule priorities.

Configuration Steps

  1. Open the collection’s promotional gift settings.
  2. Select the qualifying conditions.
  3. Choose the eligible gift products.
  4. Configure the promotion’s priority and dates.
  5. Save the collection.

Expected Result: Eligible customers receive the configured complimentary or promotional gift according to the collection’s reward rules and product availability.

9. Control Collection Visibility

Display specific gift collections to selected customers, user roles, countries, or during promotional periods.

Open Collection Visibility and Audience to configure these restrictions.

SettingDescription
Specific CustomersSearch and select registered customers by name or email.
Customer RolesSelect available WordPress roles or the Guest option.
CountriesSelect eligible WooCommerce countries using searchable fields.
Start DateChoose when the collection becomes available.
End DateChoose when the collection stops being available.

How Restrictions Work

  • Empty restrictions apply no limitation for that setting.
  • Multiple configured restrictions must all be satisfied.
  • Customer-specific restrictions require a matching registered account.
  • Guest availability can be controlled through the role selector.
  • Country restrictions require a recognized customer country.
  • Date restrictions use the store’s configured time.

Example: Create a Christmas Gift Box available to selected customers in the United Kingdom between December 1 and December 25.

Important: Selecting Guest does not override a configured Specific Customers restriction.

10. Customize Individual Gift Collection Designs

Each collection supports its own colors and introductory text, allowing you to create different designs for seasonal or promotional gift builders.

Open Builder Appearance & Text inside the relevant collection.

Color Customization

Configure:

  • Primary accent color.
  • Button hover color.
  • Heading and secondary text colors.
  • Card background.
  • Border color.
  • Hero background gradient.

Frontend Text Customization

Customize the collection’s:

Eyebrow Text: Short introductory label.

Main Heading: Primary heading displayed in the gift builder.

Description: Supporting text beneath the heading.

Example: Christmas Collection

Eyebrow: CHRISTMAS COLLECTION

Heading: Build Your Perfect Christmas Gift

Description: Choose festive favorites and create a personalized Christmas gift box.

Expected Result: Each gift collection displays its own colors and text without changing other collections.

11. Test Configurations Using the Rule Simulator

The built-in Rule Simulator helps administrators test gift box configurations before publishing.

How to Use

  1. Open the collection’s Rule Simulator.
  2. Select a gift box size.
  3. Enter quantities for the eligible products.
  4. Run the simulation.
  5. Review validation results.

The simulator checks configured capacity, product quantities, and selection restrictions.

If a configuration is invalid, review the reported issue and adjust the relevant rule.

Example: If a category requires five units but its eligible products allow only four, reduce the requirement or increase the available eligible quantities.

Note: Running the simulator does not create a cart or WooCommerce order.

12. Display Gift Collections on Your Storefront

Publish the WooCommerce Gift Box Builder using the Gutenberg block or shortcode.

Method 1: Gutenberg Block

  1. Navigate to Pages → Add New.
  2. Insert the BagCraft Builder block.
  3. Select a specific collection or the all-collections option.
  4. Publish the page.

Method 2: Shortcode

Display all collections available to the current shopper:

Dedicated Gift Builder Pages

PageExample Shortcode
Christmas Gift Boxes[bagcraft_builder collection="christmas-gifts"]
Birthday Gift Boxes[bagcraft_builder collection="birthday-gifts"]
Wedding Gift Hampers[bagcraft_builder collection="wedding-gifts"]

A specific collection must be enabled and available to the current shopper to appear.

13. Multiple Gift Bags & Cart Management

Customers can create multiple personalized gift bags during one shopping session.

Supported actions include creating, naming, duplicating, editing, and removing bags, as well as transferring compatible product quantities between bags.

Each gift bag retains its own products, wrapping selection, and gift message.

Cart behavior: Gift components have locked quantities in the WooCommerce cart. Customers should use the builder to edit a complete bag rather than changing individual component quantities.

All configurations are validated again before checkout.

Pick and Mix Gift Box Builder integrates with WooCommerce’s existing inventory, checkout, and order management workflows.

Order Management
